Wall Map
San Onofre School had a large map on the multi-use room wall. Marines helped the students find all of the locations where parents were deployed, the Marine Bases around the world, and the US Pentagon.

Tree Planting Ceremony
Teachers at San Onofre School implemented innovative programs, from elementary tide pool investigations at Crystal Cove State Park to tree planting ceremonies on the campus.

Video Conference
Using grants from Motorola Foundation and The Beaumont Foundation of America, San Onofre School changed from two computer labs to carts of Toshiba laptops that could be moved throughout the building. Students participated in video conferences with other students interacting in 24-hour worldwide video conferences coordinated by Ohio State University.

SOS TV
The extensive technology and training by Toshiba executives evolved into a student-produced news program titled SOS TV. The students wrote reports on world news, local news, sports and weather. They also wrote letters to Marines deployed in Iraq, asking them to be world reporters from that country.

It’s The Kids! partnered with A Child Unheard Foundation School in Uganda and provided a card game and ideas for project or products to be developed by the students. The students held a contest to measure what they learned. Students received an It’s Your Future Certificate and pin with an It’s Your Environment patch.

Read The Power of Partnerships to learn how 21st Century Prep successfully transformed its curriculum to It's the Kids! model and improved student motivation and performance in the process.

Science Exploratorium
Students from the middle school Science Exploratorium demonstrate static electricity. Scientists from SONGS (San Onofre Nuclear Power Station) judged student projects.

School Choir
The San Onofre School choir sang with the Marine Corps band at the Memorial Day celebration in San Clemente for the entire city.

Art Tile Wall
Students at San Onofre School each created an art impression of their family on a ceramic tile. The tiles were then fired and hung on the entry wall to the school. Some Marines created a tile in memory of a buddy that had been killed in the war.
